Supergirl

That's really super Supergirl
How you saved yourself in seconds flat
And your friends are going to say
That's really super Supergirl
How you're changing all the world's weather
--Supergirl by XTC

Here are three great graphic novel series that feature girl superheroes:

Amelia Rules by Jimmy Gownley

Gownley, Jimmy. Amelia Rules!: Vol. 3. Harrisburg, PA: Renaissance Press, 2006. Print.

I made the mistake of giving an Amelia Rules book to my niece at the beginning of our visit. I didn't get to chat with her because she couldn't stop reading!

Babymouse by Jennifer L. Holm and Matt Holm

Holm, Jennifer L, and Matthew Holm. Babymouse: Our Hero. New York: Random House, 2005. Print.

This funny series about a spunky kitty was written by Newbery honor winner, Jennifer L. Holm, and illustrated by her brother Matt!

Fashion Kitty by Charise Mericle Harper

Harper, Charise M. Fashion Kitty Versus the Fashion Queen. New York: Hyperion Paperbacks for Children, 2007. Print.

Fashion Kitty protects her classmates from Cassandra the mean Fashion Queen bully. Fashion Kitty is the cat's pajamas!

Another masterpiece by Michael Wertz

This year's Campout festival poster is my favorite yet. It's by the wonderfully talented illustrator Michael Wertz.

Check out this year's line-up:

There is even going to be a Hickman/LeRoy Songbook stage where The Dangers are going to unveil their latest album!

I like these two books

Koslow, Sally. The Late, Lamented Molly Marx: A Novel. New York: Ballantine Books, 2009.
This entertaining page turner is part mystery, part ghost story, and part New York City chick lit.

Harper, Charise Mericle. Fashion Kitty. New York: Hyperion Paperbacks for Children, 2005.
If you like Babymouse and Amelia Rules, you will love Fashion Kitty. This graphic novel for kids is the cat's pajamas.

Obama's inauguration

Michelle Obama is looking especially beautiful today, of course.

Her dress/coat combination is very elegant, and it has just the right amount of sparkle. I especially like the interesting texture and the detailed neckline.

The olive green leather gloves are a great accent. I think it would have looked a bit too precious if she'd gone with white or a pastel color to match her dress.

I can't wait to see what she wears to the ball!
