Hickman/LeRoy Songbook

My very favorite Myspace site is the Hickman/LeRoy Songbook. Chris LeRoy and Johnny Hickman have been making music together since they were little kids. You know Johnny from the band, Cracker, and Chris from Death of Me.

The Songbook features new and old songs by the duo. I think it is really interesting to see how a song becomes a song--how a song can take on a life of its own and continue to grow and change.

The Songbook is truly an interactive site. Fans' reviews, artwork, and video picks are showcased every week. For instance, I write a book review for the Songbook called The Book I Read. The title is a reference to one of my favorite Talking Heads songs:

And speaking of the Talking Heads . . .

Here's a story about the day I met Chris Frantz.

Music for Easter

I love this Death of Me album cover because it helps me remember the reason for the Easter season.

And since we're talking about Easter music . . .

Check out my rendition of the Patti Smith Group's hit, Because the Night. It's from the album, Easter.

The Parson Red Heads

I'm hooked on the L.A. based band, The Parson Red Heads. A few weeks ago my brother David and his wife Chelsea sent me their latest CD, King Giraffe. I listen to it every day during my hour-long commute to work. The music is reminiscent of The Smiths, The Velvet Underground, and Prefab Sprout.

The Parson Red Heads are part of my perfect soundtrack for a sunny day. They are in very good company with my other favorite bands, Cracker, Death of Me, and Prefab Sprout.

Train song

I love a good train song; Last Train by Death of Me is one of my favorites. It's from the AWESOME album, Life's So Hard, Make it Softer. Check out this live performance:

Waiting for Santa

Only 9 more days until Christmas. I hope Santa brings me a new computer--I miss blogging from home! (Right now I'm at work, on my dinner break.)

Marc and I are looking forward to spending Christmas Eve at Uncle Franky's house in Naples, Florida. I think it's funny that so many of my Italian relatives from Connecticut have moved to Naples. I doubt that it's much like the original.

Speaking of Christmas, this beautiful photograph reminds me of "the reason for the season." It's from the CD, Life's So Hard Make it Softer by Death of Me. If you like Cracker and John Prine, you'll love Death of Me. You should also check out The Hickman/LeRoy Songbook.
