The Wild West

Here are three great children's books about the Wild West:

Pair this funny picture book with P.D. Eastman's Are You My Mother for a rip-roaring storytime about mistaken identities.
Rash, Andy. Are You a Horse? New York: Arthur A. Levine Books, 2009.

The author of this how-to book is a descendant of Buffalo Bill Cody--and so is my hubby!
Cody, Tod. The Cowboy's Handbook: How to Become a Hero of the Wild West. New York: Cobblestone Books: 1996.

Did you know that the desert is bilingual?
Mora, Pat, and Francisco X. Mora. Listen to the Desert = Oye Al Desierto. New York: Clarion Books, 1994.

And speaking of the Wild West . . .

The Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven Annual Campout takes place this weekend in Pioneertown, California. (I've never really been, but I'd sure like to go.) Many westerns were filmed in this desert town, and Old West reenactments are performed every weekend. It's not too late to buy tickets for the best concert of the year!
